Focal wanted to share and celebrate their 40th anniversary with music professionals, so they developed Solo6 Be 40th!
Dressed up Focal’s iconic active monitor, the Made in France Solo6 Be, in a unique and elegant black cloak and stamped it as a special ‘40 year’ edition by Focal.
AN ELEGANT AND TIMELESS LOOK
Solo6 Be is a 2-way monitor which, from the moment it was launched, surprised users with its size/extended frequency response in the bass ratio, the woofer's accumulation of neutrality in the mid-range, the fullness of the mid-bass and its bass control. It provides transparency and an unmatched degree of definition and precision of the stereo image for this price category: that is why we chose to showcase this model to celebrate our anniversary. How? By dressing it in a black leather-effect coating to give it a discreet, distinguished and timeless look. Stamped as a ‘40 year’ special edition, this monitor, made in our workshops in France, embodies the passion we share with music creators.
Behind this new 'finish’ lies our Beryllium inverted dome tweeter, capable of reproducing high frequencies with an unrivalled degree of purity and transparency, and a bass/mid driver composed of our ‘W’ composite sandwich cone. This cone allows us to optimise the response from as early as the design phase and gives the loudspeaker incredible sound neutrality. Finally, the bass/mid power stage in Solo6 Be 40th is fine-tuned using BASH® technology, which delivers class AB sound quality combined with the efficiency of class D amplifiers.
The Solo6 Be monitor will surprise you in the very first minutes you spend with it, partly due to its size/extended bass response (40Hz at -3dB). The 6.5"" “W” composite sandwich mid-woofer combines neutrality in the midrange, fullness in the midbass register and bass control.
Its compactness and the choice of a large front laminar port guarantee easy integration in studios that need a near field monitor without any acoustic compromise. The user settings on the back of the Solo6 Be, combined with its compactness, make it easy to carry and to adjust according to the acoustics of each studio.
Beryllium inverted dome tweeter
The inverted dome tweeter is a hallmark of Focal. As a result of more than twenty years of development into a tweeter that could produce a high output, but without requiring high energy input and without increasing directivity. The introduction of the pure Beryllium dome, capable of covering 5 full octaves from 1,000 to 40,000Hz constitutes a new decisive advance regarding new audio formats. This tweeter capacity to reproduce high frequencies with unmatched speed and transparency. At first the pure Beryllium tweeter was only available on the very high-end digital speakers of the Focal Professional lines (SM8 & SM11), but is now featured on the new SM6 series, allowing an unprecedented price/performance ratio.
The “W” cone
Focal has been developing the technologies of composite sandwich cones for more than 15 years. The ""W"" process (Glass/Foam/Glass), used on the SM11, SM8 and SM6 lines, provides a true optimiza a true optimization of the frequency response by fine tuning of mass, rigidity and damping parameters. The balance between these 3 fundamental and often contradictory parameters is at the base of the outstanding sound neutrality of our speakers.
A custom designed amplification stage
Designing an amp to be integrated inside a speaker requires a very different set of rules than for a traditional amp. Speaker size and cooling concerns are often in contradiction with the high quality and high power requirements of a sonically transparent speaker. Our engineers used the BASH® technology to develop the bass/medium amplification circuit for the SM6 professional line of speakers. This was the only way to exploit the best of class AB style circuits (for exceptional quality) with a class D type yield, which is crucial when housing a 150W RMS circuit in such a small space (300W RMS for the Twin 6 and 350W RMS for the Sub6). A pure class AB circuit is sufficient to power the -less energy demanding- high frequency tweeter, allowing for an extremely wide bandwidth and exceptional accuracy.
